Georgia Game Makers Bring SIEGE Back To Atlanta

Atlanta, GA – June 21, 2010 — The Georgia Game Developers Association (GGDA) today announced plans for the fourth annual Southern Interactive Entertainment and Game Expo (SIEGE). Scheduled for Oct. 1 – 3, 2010, at the Crowne Plaza NW Atlanta hotel, SIEGE focuses on the fast-growing game design industry in the South.

“Continued growth of the computer and video game industry requires new centers of excellence to emerge with talented labor pools,” said Clinton Lowe, president of GGDA and CEO of C. Allen Lowe and Associates. “More than 15 Georgia colleges currently offer video game-related academic programs.  With tax incentives of up to 30% of game project budgets, Georgia is quickly becoming a new center for technology and games.”

Now in its fourth year, SIEGE features leading figures from a wide spectrum of the industry, including artists, programmers, designers, writers, teachers and business executives. Other speakers include government figures, experts on computer game violence, social issues, serious games and more.

The convention also includes a number of special events. Among these are a college fair, game design tournaments, expo hall, networking events, augmented reality games and more.

“SIEGE does an excellent job of attracting a wide variety of attendees,” said Andrew Greenberg, SIEGE director and a partner at Holistic Design, Inc., an Atlanta-based computer game company. “The strong array of presenters and events means that there is a lot for everyone to do. Industry leaders share their insights with fellow professionals, students come looking for schools and employers, companies come looking for employees, and so on.”

The event has attracted a variety of sponsors, including Georgia’s Department of Economic Development. Conference sessions include classes on the latest software, game design techniques, business issues, starting a new company, and more. More information can be found at www.siegecon.net.

Pong Creator Nolan Bushnell to Keynote SIEGE in Atlanta

Atlanta, GA – July 1, 2010 — The Georgia Game Developers Association (GGDA) today announced that Nolan Bushnell, founder of the video game industry, will deliver the keynote address at the fourth annual Southern Interactive Entertainment and Game Expo (SIEGE). Scheduled for Oct. 1 – 3, 2010, at the Crowne Plaza NW Atlanta hotel, SIEGE focuses on the fast-growing game design industry in the South.

“Nolan Bushnell was instrumental in creating an industry that now has sales in the tens of billions of dollars,” said Andrew Greenberg, SIEGE director and a partner at Holistic Design, Inc., an Atlanta-based computer game company. “Always an innovator, he has continued to stay involved with games while taking them in unexpected directions.”

Best known as the founder of Atari Corporation and Chuck E. Cheese Pizza Time Theater, Bushnell now devotes his talents to Tapcode, a company that develops digital media entertainment and hospitality software showcased in the restaurant uWink, an interactive restaurant that allows customers to order food, drinks, games and other media at their table through touch screen terminals.  He serves on several Boards of Directors, and was recently appointed to the Atari Board.

Inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame and the Consumer Electronics Association Hall of Fame, Bushnell was named one of Newsweek’s “50 Men That Changed America.”  In March 2009, Bushnell was honored with the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Fellowship Award, the highest accolade the Academy bestows, for his outstanding creative contribution to the Video Games Industry. Currently a biopic about Bushnell, tentatively titled Atari, is in pre-production. The story was acquired by Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company and is set to star Leonardo DiCaprio as Mr. Bushnell.

Now in its fourth year, SIEGE features leading figures from a wide spectrum of the industry, including artists, programmers, designers, writers, teachers and business executives. Other speakers include government figures, experts on computer game violence, social issues, serious games and more.

The event has attracted a variety of sponsors, including Georgia’s Department of Economic Development. Conference sessions include classes on the latest software, game design techniques, business issues, starting a new company, and more. More information can be found at www.siegecon.net.

Tripwire Interactive Goes Platinum at SIEGE

Atlanta, Ga – August 25, 2010 — The Georgia Game Developers Association (GGDA) today announced Tripwire Interactive as a platinum sponsor for the fourth annual Southern Interactive Entertainment and Game Expo (SIEGE). Scheduled for Oct. 1 - 3, 2010, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel - Atlanta Perimeter NW (Powers Ferry Rd), SIEGE brings together the leading Southern companies, universities and organizations in the game industry.

“We’ve been with SIEGE since the start and it is good to see how the show grows each year, reflecting the growth in the industry in Georgia and the South,” said Alan Wilson, vice president of Tripwire Interactive. “The show is good fun – we get in a good mix of business, learning and partying!”

Based in Roswell, Ga, Tripwire Interactive is an entertainment software developer and publisher founded in 2005 by the award-winning mod team and winners of the 2004 edition of the "$1,000,000 Make Something Unreal" competition. Released in early 2006, Tripwire Interactive's debut retail title Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 achieved both critical and commercial success garnering several awards including "Multiplayer Game of the Year" and "FPS of the Year" for 2006. Killing Floor, Tripwire's second title, jumped straight to the top of the Steam best-seller list and instantly became one of the top-ten most played FPS games in the world. With some of the most-played PC multiplayer games on the market and over 1 million units sold on PC, Tripwire Interactive have proven that with hard work, determination and great distribution partners, independent game developers can still make a big splash in the games industry. And if that wasn’t enough, in 2010, Tripwire published Zeno Clash, The Ball, and Dwarfs, bringing more independent developers’ products to the world.

“Tripwire is one of SIEGE’s strongest partners,” said Andrew Greenberg, director of SIEGE. “Its employees bring a high level of professionalism and knowledge to everything with which they become involved, be it sessions on funding independent game studios, designing great games or building a devoted fan community.”

As the Southeast's leading gaming and interactive conference, SIEGE brings together students and professionals from across the region to celebrate the world of gaming. SIEGE's speakers include leading figures from a wide spectrum of the industry, including artists, programmers, designers, writers, teachers and business executives. Special events include game design tournaments, game playing tournaments, parties, networking events, and a student fair for high school students and others looking for colleges.  For more information, please contact: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
