GGDA Announces Games for Health Day @ SIEGE
Atlanta, GA – July 18, 2012 — The Georgia Game Developers Association today announced plans for its first annual Games for Health Day @ SIEGE Oct. 5, part of the sixth annual Southern Interactive Entertainment and Game Expo (SIEGE) in Atlanta.
“SIEGE has become the largest professional game development conference in the Southeast, and games for health has become one of the most important areas in games,” said Andrew Greenberg, president of the Georgia Game Developers Association and producer of the upcoming Noble Armada iPad game. “With the many leading health institutions in Atlanta and the South, the combination is a natural one.”
Games for health include a wide variety of games, including games that help surgeons enhance their skills; improve children’s outcomes in chemotherapy; increase people’s cognitive abilities; teach nutrition; show people how to deal with diabetes; and much more. The annual Games for Health conference in Boston has become the leading showcase for these efforts, as well as a key partner for the Games for Health Day @ SIEGE.
“The games for health field is becoming a bona-fide market where research is turning into for-sale products. It's beginning to thrive as space for companies big and small, as well as indie developers. Games for Health Day at SIEGE is an excellent opportunity for developers, researchers, and investors to get a sense of the best work in the space, and learn how they can get involved further,” said Ben Sawyer, co-founder of the Serious Games Initiative and director of the Games for Health Conference.
Now in its sixth year, SIEGE features leading figures from a wide spectrum of the industry, including artists, programmers, designers, investors, writers, teachers and business executives. Other speakers include government figures, experts on computer game violence, social issues, serious games and more. The event also includes a college fair for high school students looking to learn game design skills, a Game Investment Conference @ SIEGE, and many networking events for people looking to enter the industry as well as people already making games.
SIEGE attracts a variety of sponsors, including leading companies, universities, and government organizations. Conference sessions include classes on the latest software, game design techniques, business issues, serious games, starting a new company, and more. Information is available at www.siegecon.net.
Founded in 2004, the Games for Health Project (www.gamesforhealth.org) supports the development of the health games community, champions efforts to mainstream health games, and brings together researchers, medical professionals, and game developers to share information about the impact games and game technologies can have on health, health care, and policy. The Pioneer Portfolio of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is a major supporter of both the Games for Health Project and its annual Games for Health Conference.

GGDA Announces SIEGE Investment Conference |
|
ATLANTA (August 31, 2012) — The Georgia Game Developers Association today announced plans for its second annual SIEGE Investment Conference to be held Oct. 5, part of the sixth annual Southern Interactive Entertainment and Game Expo (SIEGE) in Atlanta. “SIEGE has become the largest professional game development conference in the Southeast, and more and more people are looking to become involved with the industry,” said Andrew
Greenberg, president of the Georgia Game Developers Association and producer of the upcoming Noble Armada iPad game. “With the many investors and new game studios in the South, there have been growing demands to bring the two together.”
The SIEGE Investment Conference includes a Funding Forum where developers and companies can pitch to a large panel of investors and industry experts, a legislative roundtable, panels for game companies on working with investors and for investors on working with game companies. The Investment Conference runs at the same time as the Games for Health Day @ SIEGE, about all aspects of this burgeoning field, and includes opportunities for the two groups to share opportunities and ideas.
“There are both opportunities and risks for investors looking to support game development and game companies seeking investors,” said Rob Hassett, an attorney at Casey Gilson and director of the SIEGE investment conference. “Both groups are aware of the opportunities, and a little bit of education can go a long way to reducing the risks. The game industry is still new and growing, and it has its own unique issues of which many investors are not aware.”
Now in its sixth year, SIEGE features leading figures from a wide spectrum of the game production industry, including artists, programmers, designers, investors, writers, teachers and business executives. Other speakers include government figures, experts on computer game violence, social issues, serious games and more. The event also includes a college fair for high school students looking to learn game design skills, a Games for Health Day @ SIEGE, and many networking events for people looking to enter the industry as well as people already making games.
SIEGE attracts a variety of sponsors, including leading companies, universities and government organizations. Conference sessions include classes on the latest software, game design techniques, business issues, serious games, starting a new company and more. Information is available at www.siegecon.net.
